Wow, What An Amazing & Memorable Week in Port Sunlight, Liverpool!
Traveling here to facilitate the Maxwell Leadership Game, I managed to find some time to visit the birthplace of Unilever in the quiet town of Port Sunlight – a community Lord Lever built & cared over when he started making soaps in the early 1900s.
The inscription says it all:
A MAN REMARKABLE FOR HIS BUSINESS ABILITY. HIS PUBLIC BENEFACTIONS AND HIS LOVE OF BEAUTY AND ART. THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED BY HIS FELLOW WORKERS.
Don’t miss this: “Erected by … I don’t think it’s just his fellow workers, but those he cared for!”
I believe this is the distinctive mark of a true leader: that he cares for the Team & the community he has been assigned to. And I believe this is an important question we need to ask ourselves as leaders: Who is THE community we have been given the privilege to bless?
Wrapping up this week, I’m filled with gratitude to be able to walk alongside this amazing Leadership Team at Unilever International – thank you
Team and thank you Larissa Murmann for the partnership!
Oh, I can see the spirit of Lord Lever in each of you, and I know it’s a function of time that the communities you are already touching will be exponentially blest!
As I departed from lovely Liverpool, I found myself humming .. walk on, walk on. You will never walk alone.
